First of all a Happy Chinese New Year to those of you that do celebrate the event. We celebrate it in quite a large scale here in Malaysia and the entire country is practically at a standstill this time of year!

So, in between all the merry making and food(!), I’ve discovered a resource which is so great I jumped at the chance to join IMMEDIATELY (the price is ridiculously low too)…

A Repeatable Formula Is The Best-Kept Internet Marketing Secret

The title of my article is a giveaway to what I’ll be revealing next, but this ’secret’ is really no secret at all as all the major businesses in the world do it, but somehow Internet Marketers don’t seem to have a firm grasp on it. Consider the ubiquitous Starbucks chain - you’ll find them in almost every major city in the world. What are some of the keys of their success? They have a repeatable business which they can quickly setup anywhere in the world and customers can expect the same quality and products no matter where! Its as simple as that.

So how does that apply to the Internet Marketer? Imagine a scenario where you can take a new product (be it a Resell Rights or Private Label Rights product) and very quickly make a sales page, upload and promote it. Then announce it to your regular traffic channels and rake it the profits. Then imagine being able to do this repeatedly. That’s where the profits lie, in launching multiple projects with your own profitable formula!

This article would not go into specifics, but I hope it’ll get your creative juices flowing and you can be motivated by the concept.

Firstly you need a good research system. This subject alone warrants an article by itself and I can’t cover it all here, but there are a lot of excellent websites like Wordtracker that’ll help you find keywordsand niches that are waiting to be mined. You research system could also include browsing forums and newsgroups where smart marketers can often spot a void waiting to be filled. For example, you could come up with a solution to a long-standing problem or even a frequently asked question. I’ve seen marketers come up with quick (and thin) reports that answer a nagging problem and see brisk sales at $9.99 a pop!

Second is the source of your income. After you’ve identified what you want to do, you’ll need something to sell to that niche. This could be an affiliate product or even your self-developed one. List out your regular suppliers on an Excel spreadsheet for fast access.

Finally you need to develop a system for publishing websites that work. This can take time as you find you particular method of doing it. Make sure that you can replicate this system at will. For example, from a technical point of view, I use standard CSS templates that has all the formatting for headlines in red, sub-headers, yellow-highlighted text, etc and I can’t tell you how much time that’s saved me whenever I need to get a quick sales page up. I also use an immensely time consuming tool called RoboForm that saves all my passwords and form data which then allows me to promote my new site quickly.

Again, what I’m revealing here is nothing new. We all know this, but how often have we seen this as a ‘franchise’? Meaning that we can easily recreate our last successful website but for a different niche? How about the ability to create multiple of these sites daily? Well you do the math and imagine if you have a well-oiled machinery like that in your hands.

What does it take? Some time to develop it of course. Write down the systems you’ll need and where your strengths and weaknesses lie, then find the appropriate help in that area. Buy other ebooks to assist you, be it in the technical or marketing arena. Outsource if you must, and make that a part of your process. Your process should also have a schedule to keep you on track. Do it well and you’ll be surprised at how many websites you can launch in a week!

Whatever it is, stop marketing blindly and hoping that you’ll stumble on a “magic bullet”. Take some time to plan and you’ll find that it’ll go a long way to your Internet Marketing success! Strategy For Success - Create Your Internet Marketing Business Plan

I’m sure you’ve heard of the adage “failure to plan is planning to fail”. This saying is especially true with Internet Marketers. Picture this - you stumbled on a website that claims to teach you the secrets on making money online. You decide to buy the e-book (before the offer ends at midnight) for $49 and eagerly peruse the content. You head is swarming with ideas, jargon and dreams. You hastily get online and start the processes outlined in the e-book and before long you find yourself $200 poorer in domains, hosting, subscriptions, more e-books and with $20 profits to show!

Now, don’t get me wrong. I’ve been there and done that. As a matter of fact, I can tell you that most Internet Marketers start that way too! The difference with successful marketers is that they have 2 things in common - Perseverance and Planning.

To succeed in Internet Marketing you first need to outline your goals and schedules and then stick to it no matter what new “secret” is being hawked to you. Find a channel (or “income stream”) that works for you and work it. I’ve seen many people make money from Adsense, Affiliate Marketing, eBay, even recompiling CDs with software and selling them online!

So, in this article, I’d like to share some ideas to get you started with planning for your Internet Business.

It is a business
Many people rush in without a plan. Would you do that in a brick and mortar business? Part of the problem is that there’s a common sales pitch that promises you can start earning in 15 minutes! The truth is that without proper research and understanding, you can lose money in that same time too, I know I have! So, firstly recognize that it IS a business and that you should treat it as one. The first thing to do therefore is to create a business plan. List out the types of Internet Marketing you’ll be doing, the products you’ll be promoting and what you’re willing to spend monthly for the business. If you’re savvy with numbers, go ahead and create your cash flow plans too.
Create a working schedule
Most Internet Marketers are drawn to the business because it appeals very strongly to our urge to be financially independent. That’s why when we see those sales copies that tells us we only need to work 1 hour a day to make a living online, we’re instantly drawn in. Yes its true that you can reach a stage where you only need an hour a day to maintain the business, but again, the truth is that you do need to spend many hours (especially in the initial stages) to build your business. I would recommend that you also create a timetable. Think of this as your daily investment and assign a specific task every day. For example, I write 2 articles and submit them every Monday. Then I’ll work on my Adwords account (with research) every Tuesday. Wednesdays are blogging days. Weekends are spent researching and looking for new niches. You get the idea…
Project your income
Its very important to set (at least) a monthly income target. It’s very encouraging to chart your progress towards that target. I’ve heard of a tip where you can then aim to turn your monthly income to weekly, then to daily and even to your hourly income! With proper planning and perseverance, you can achieve it.
Educate yourself
Finally, I found that even the gurus are always learning and educating themselves. Don’t get waylaid by every new tactic that’s being promoted, but learn why it works and how you can apply it. Don’t be pressured to do it then and there, but file it for the future. Keep your focus on your projects at hand.

If you want your Internet Marketing business to succeed, you must stop what you’re doing and develop a business plan. Stop going round in circles and take some time off to brainstorm and clarify your plans, objectives and business models clearly. Take some time to “sharpen the saw” as Stephen Covey puts it. Make this a regular practice and it’ll help you to be much more effective and productive in your business.

The Most Incredible 2 Hours I’ve Had This Year in Internet Marketing

A few days ago, the World Internet Summit was held here in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and although I could not make the event, I was pleasantly surprised to receive an email from none other than Internet Marketing Guru Extraordinaire Willie Crawford inviting his list to meet up with him. I jumped on the chance as my very first introduction to Internet Marketing was by Mr Crawford himself…

So we set up a meeting at his hotel lobby and man, was I excited all day to meet him! Little did I expect that I was to spend the next 2 hours with the man all to myself. Willie was such a warm and real person and his enthusiasm and knowledge in Internet Marketing is just so incredible. He’s really committed to helping people (like yours truly) to succeed with Internet Marketing. If you’re a subscriber on his list, you know how he shares a lot of his knowledge freely on his newsletters.

We chatted on ebook marketing, email marketing, JV brokering, family, travelling and just life in general. All in all, the meeting has made a profound effect on my Internet Marketing journey.

To sum it all up, here’s 2 important points I’ve learned from that encounter:

Focus
We all know this, but Willie is living proof. He doesn’t get distracted with the many different “opportunities” but just keeps working on one project until its completed and moves on to the next.
Research
It was a real eye opener how he sees opportunity all the time (even at the restaurant we were at!) and how he approaches the research process. I must admit that I’m often guilty of jumping in to a niche based on nothing but a hunch.

All in all, it was a fantastic time just listening to Willie share his experiences. And since he’s been at it since ‘96, he sure has lots to share!So, thank you again Mr. Crawford, its the best IM training I’ve had this year!

Off for a break

Malaysia is a land of holidays. This time around we have Deepavali and Hari Raya back-to-back. They are Hindu and Muslim festivities respectively. Coupled with the fact that they happen midweek, most companies just take the entire week off so the capital is usually at a virtual standstill (except the shopping malls!)

This is one of the nice things about working online. The websites and autoresponders are happily chugging along while you’re on break!

What I Learned from Derek Gehl

About a month ago, I had an opportunity to catch Derek Gehl when he was here in Malaysia for the “Internet Intrepreneur Bootcamp”. I did not attend the 3-day camp, but I did attend the preview talk. I arrived at the venue Holiday Villa Subang late and the room was already full.

Small note before I proceed… The organisers decided to use SMS as a way of confirming my attendance after I registered online. Although that’s fine by me, on the day of the talk, a faulty SMS system sent out about 40 reminders to my phone in a span of 20 mins which completely drove me insane as it was clogging up my phone from legitimate messages!
Nonetheless, the apologised the next day (by SMS again!)…

Anyway, here are some quick points on what I learnt from Derek:

Confidence
He knew his stuff and was completely sold on Internet Marketing. In my experience, many of us dabble in IM as ‘extra income’, not fully realising the potential the Internet holds for us. Which leads me to the next point.
Potential
I was watching the participants and I realised that there are still many that have no clue what IM is about, so if you have any doubts that IM is saturated, think again. I was watching as the participants hungrily wrote out works like “Adwords”, “Wordtracker”, “Autoresonders”, etc. - websites and technologies we use daily!
Focus
In each case study, he revealed a hint of his process. The IMC obviously has certain processes set out and again I must stress that this is what’s lacking in most IMers - focus and planning. That’s why I like a system like Mark’s Link Affilorama that has a 90-day Roadmap laid out and you just have to follow it!

To round up, stay focused on your goals, plan and continue. The Internet is still a goldmine that’s growing everyday!
